National Train Day

NARP and our partner organizations will participate in the following National Train Day events (listed alphabetically by city name). All take place on Saturday, May 12, 2012 unless otherwise noted.

Appalachian Power Park (minor-league baseball stadium), 601 Morris St.

A National Train Day celebration will be held at the ballpark in the afternoon, prior to the West Virginia Power's 7:05 PM game against the Charleston (SC) RiverDogs. The Friends of the Cardinal will have a table with NARP literature.

The Swamp Creek & Western Model Railroad Club will have its open session for the public. Their model railroad is spetacular. All Aboard Washington will be hosting a table with information about our organization, NARP, our Talgo trains, Operation Lifesaver and more.

Volunteers, displaying a big "Welcome to La Junta" banner, will have refreshments, kids' giveaways, and information from the local Chamber of Commerce. A community orchestra will play marching tunes to herald the westbound Southwest Chief's arrival. There will be a table with information about NARP and the Colorado Rail Passengers Association (ColoRail)

A ColoRail delegation will also be riding the Southwest Chief on May 12 round-trip from La Junta to Las Vegas, NM. Anyone is welcome to join them for a discussion in the train's Sightseer Lounge car, but you are responsible for reserving your own train tickets.
